JULIE Fowlis takes a seat on the steps of Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall as she is confirmed as the first act for the Tiree Music Festival.

The folk singer will appear at this year's event from July 18 to 20 on the island. The festival is in its fifth year and attracts around 1500 music fans, trebling Tiree's population for the weekend.

Last year's event, which included performances from Capercaillie, Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire, Skerryvore and Manran, was sold out. It also won a series of accolades, including being named the Best Small Festival.

Tickets go on sale at 9am today at www.tireemusicfestival.co.uk.
