A CLIMBER has survived a fall of around 200ft, while trekking along the Cairngorm mountain range after landing in snow.

The man was leading a group of climbers from England who had just completed a winter route on Coire Gas. They were on their return when he fell through a concealed cornice.

The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team were alerted at about 1.30pm. After arriving on the scene they helped stretcher the man off the hill.

The climber was later being treated for a broken ankle at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

About two minutes after the incident, two Finish climbers fell in the same area but were uninjured.
