ROME:

Two white doves, offered as a gesture of peace, were attacked by other birds just seconds after their release.

Pope Francis set them loose in front of 10,000-strong crowd in St Peter's Square. However, just as the doves left the window, they were accosted by a seagull and a black crow. It remains unclear what happened to the doves, released as gesture to those embattled in Ukraine.
