A teacher who had an affair with a pupil missed a sex-risk assessment with a psychologist because she went to the wrong city, a court has heard.

Bernadette Smith was supposed to see the expert in Glasgow but went to Edinburgh by mistake. Stirling Sheriff Court was told she was "aghast" at missing the meeting, during which she would have talked through her relationship with 16-year-old Gary Ralston.

Smith, of Gill Park, Denny, has pled guilty to engaging in sexual activity with the boy.

She appeared for sentencing at Stirling Sheriff Court yesterday.

Her solicitor Andrew Gibb said: "She is now seeing Dr Carpenter on February 17."

Sheriff William Gilchrist deferred sentence until February 26.
