MORE than 170 jobs are to be axed by 2015 as a Scottish council looks to make more than £13 million worth of savings.
A total of 173.7 full time equivalent (FTE) posts at South Lanarkshire Council are under threat after councillors agreed an outline for the 2014/15 budget at yesterday's meeting of the executive committee.
A council spokesman said some of these posts are vacant and will not be filled, while stressing that the local authority has a "no compulsory redundancy policy".
Included in the job cuts are lollipop men and women. Overall, 20 FTE school crossing patrol posts are to go in the next three years. Four public toilet attendant jobs are also under threat.
Council leader Eddie McAvoy said: "We are doing everything possible to protect our essential frontline services."
