The mystery of a cat thought to have found its way from the Canary Islands to the north-east of Scotland has been solved.
The tabby which was found by a family in a garage in Muchalls, Aberdeenshire, last week had an electronic tag which suggested she was from Fuerteventura.
However, it has been discovered the female belongs to an owner who had moved to Scotland, but had not updated her address details. Tina the tabby has now been reunited with her owner after she was taken to a local vet.
A ring round of local vet practices in the Stonehaven area by the charity Cats Protection led to one of them recognising the owner's name and ringing her.
Now Fiona Prati, of Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, and Tina have been reunited after the cat probably got into a vehicle and travelled the 30 miles to the coast.
Cats Protection spokeswoman Zahir White said it highlighted the importance of keeping the address details for pets who have been electronically chipped up to date. She said: "It is great news that Tina's owner has been found and we're happy we were able to play a part in reuniting them. This is one of the most unusual cases we have come across."
