Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry has been named the Oldie Of The Year.

The cookery writer and judge from the hit BBC series rose to the top at The Oldie magazine's annual celebration lunch recognising the contribution of mature familiar faces.

Ms Berry, 78, said: "I just love being an oldie, there's no Botox, no implants and no tucks and that's how I think we should all be."

Actress Anne Reid, also 78, one of the stars of BBC1's Last Tango In Halifax, was named Pin-up Of The Year.

Broadcaster Nicholas Parsons, who is still hosting his Radio 4 series Just A Minute after 46 years at the age of 90, collected the Dorian Gray Award. Organisers and judges often tailor the awards to those they feel are worthy of recognition.

Former Prime Minister Sir John Major, 70, was named Campaigner Of The Year, while Joan Woolard - a Barclays investor who told bank executives 'I don't know how you sleep at night' - won Heckler Of The Year.

In her acceptance speech she said the award was "the icing on top of the cake" after recently selling her four bedroom house in a day and giving the £200,000 proceeds to charity Kids Company.

The judges for the awards, staged in London and hosted by Sir Terry Wogan, included broadcasters Jon Snow and Libby Purves and The Oldie's founder Richard Ingrams.
