A series of open days are taking place in Glasgow to help people with learning disabilities and their carers find out more about activities on offer.
The events have been organised by a group of partners who make up a public social partnership called The Life I Want. The group was set up after the city council's controversial decision to close three day centres, which angered some carers and service users. Sessions are in the Gorbals this Monday and Maryhill on Thursday. An information helpline is available on 0800 819 9181.
Tommy Gorman, spokesman for a group of carers who are calling for day centres to remain open, said: "The learning disability community in Glasgow have had real choice removed. Day centre users made clear what they wanted in their lives but that was ignored because the priorities were budget driven."
