A law clinic set up by University of Strathclyde students to offer free support to people who cannot afford legal fees is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The project has been twice nominated for a Herald Society award, and won the Team of the Year trophy in 2012.

Since records began in 2007, the Law Clinic has opened more than 1200 cases - in the process winning or saving nearly £580,000 for clients and advisers have also helped people keep their jobs and homes, provided advice, help and education to prisoners, people suffering from possible miscarriages of justice and members of the public facing consumer problems. Overall, the Law Clinic has a success rate of 93%.

Professor Donald Nicolson OBE, director - and founder - of the Law Clinic, said: "The Law Clinic has significantly exceeded my wildest dreams in setting it up. The students have shown great commitment and courage in doing so much to assist those most in need of legal services."
