AN AWARD-winning Scots cheese has been pulled from shelves after food safety bosses found it contained a potentially deadly bug.
The Food Standards Agency found that Loch Arthur Creamery Criffel cheese could pose serious health risks for pregnant women, young children and anyone with an illness leading to reduced immunity.
The creamery has recalled all batches made between November 11 and 15, saying that human "safety and health is paramount."
People who bought the cheese have been advised not to eat it and to return it to the shop where it was purchased. It is not thought anyone has fallen ill as a result of eating the cheese.
It is the second time in 12 months that the cheese has had to be pulled because of the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Last February the Dumfriesshire cheese tested positive for contamination.
