FRIENDS of the schoolgirl who died after a suspected drugs incident in a Glasgow nightclub have paid tribute to her at a poignant memorial event.

Dozens gathered last night at Goldenhill Park in Clydebank for the colourful memorial and lit candles and released Chinese lanterns as they remembered Regane MacColl, 17, a week after her death.

She died last weekend after becoming ill in The Arches nightclub in Glasgow city centre.

Police believe her death may be linked to "Mortal Kombat" ecstasy tablets and have issued a warning about the red pills, which have been linked to four other incidents of people becoming ill.

Miss MacColl's funeral will take place this week at St Mary's in Duntocher, when mourners will gather for a service before laying the teenager to rest in Old Dalnottar Cemetery in Clydebank.

The sixth-year pupil at St Peter the Apostle High School was described as popular and bubbly.

Headteacher Linda Booth said: "This is a real tragedy for a girl who worked so hard and I'm sure would have gone on to achieve so much in her life."
