A NINE-MILE tailback announced the return of roadworks to a major bridge in the Highlands.
Work on the second phase of the £13.2 million upgrade of the 0.65 mile Kessock Bridge at Inverness caused a huge traffic management headache, as 30,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day.
The 20-week programme will see a contraflow on the northbound carriageway.
Commuters are being encouraged to change their normal journey plans, such as delaying when they leave home, in a bid to take 1000 vehicles off the bridge at peak times, but delays of up to an hour were reported yesterday.
Highland Council leader Drew Hendry said: "With 900 staff crossing the bridge daily en route to work, we can make a difference in relieving pressure on the bridge. We are extending our flexitime hours at the start and end of the day."
