The victims of a fatal car crash in Aberdeenshire have been identified.

Police Scotland confirmed them as Dennis Morrice, 80, and Margaret Watson, 77, both from the Fraserburgh area.

They died in the collision with another vehicle on the A952 Mintlaw-Fraserburgh road, at around 6.20pm yesterday.

The male driver of the second vehicle was seriously injured and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The vehicles involved were a red Vauxhall Corsa and a white van.

David Pirie, roads policing sergeant, said: "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed either of the vehicles being driven near the locus around the time of the collision, which occurred on the A952 Cortes to Mintlaw road near Hythie, to come forward.

"We are keen to establish the full facts and circumstances to identify the cause of this tragedy and our condolences go out to the families of those involved at this very difficult time."

The road was closed for around six hours while a collision investigation took place.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.
