COLLEGE lecturers have gone ahead with a planned strike, despite a last-minute offer to revise their pay.
Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) decided to walk out in a dispute over terms and conditions at Edinburgh College. On the eve of the strike, the college had offered to raise the previous maximum salary offer of £34,700 to around £36,000 over a two-year period.
A college spokesman said: "We hoped they would suspend the strike while they looked at the details."
EIS general secretary Larry Flanagan said: "Lecturers do not want to strike, but feel that they simply have to take this action in protest at the damaging changes to conditions of service that college management has proposed."
