Commuters are facing disruption on the roads after snow showers hit several parts of the country.

Traffic Scotland warned the public to be aware of difficult driving conditions caused by snow and ice.

Weather warnings were in place overnight on Tuesday and into today for several regions including Grampian, Highlands, Fife, Tayside, Central Scotland, South West Scotland, and Lothian and the Borders.

Traffic Scotland said snow showers would continue into this morning in the north, lying on higher ground. Icy stretches were also expected to last well into the morning.

A band of rain, sleet and snow is forecast for parts of Southern Scotland this morning, particularly in Dumfries and Galloway and the Lothians, while the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway and East Lothian are also forecast to be hit by high winds.

BEAR Scotland, which maintains Scotland's trunk roads, last night warned of difficult driving conditions on routes in the west including the A82 Tyndrum, A85 Dalmally, A82 Glencoe, A830 Glenfinnan and A87 Glenshiel.

Police in Edinburgh also warned drivers of flakes of snow, low temperatures, wet roads, stopping distances, poor visibility, and urged people to travel with care.
