A TOWN has been left without mobile phone coverage after a landowner ordered a Vodafone mast off his land.

Residents of Auchterarder, Perthshire, are having to travel up to three miles to make phone calls after the telecoms company was served a notice to quit a nearby site. The mobile phone giant insists it is trying to resolve the issue.

Residents have written to their MSPs over the problem, and businesses are furious over the loss of business as a result of potential customers not being able to get in touch.

Vodafone says it was issued with a notice to quit by the landowner at its site at Rossie Hill.

Resident Ann Easton, 56, said she feared the lack of a mobile phone signal would cost her gardening company money.

She said: "It's an absolute nightmare. It's very, very frustrating."

A Vodafone spokeswoman said: "Our engineers are trying to find a way round the loss of this site."
