ORGANISERS of events connected to the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn have received a new setback after a fashion designer hired to push a promotional campaign left the role.

Iona Crawford was said to have been taken on last year as a figurehead for a campaign called Stirling 2014, which is designed to be a creative stepping stone for new projects during the anniversary year.

It has been confirmed, however, that she is no longer in the role amid concerns of cash restraints at Stirling Council.

Ms Crawford was quoted as saying: "My active role as creative director ended by mutual consent after I was informed that there was no budget within the council to afford my consultancy."
