A COLLECTION of interviews and portraits of people who arrived in Scotland as immigrants 50 years ago has been published by two housing associations.

Scottish Memories charts the struggles and achievements of older ethnic minority men and women from countries such as India, Pakistan, China and the Caribbean who made Scotland their home from the late 1940s to the 1960s.

Funded by Lottery cash distributor HLF Scotland, and published by Trust Housing, Bield Housing and Care and Hanover Housing, it includes stories of trailblazers such as Scotland's first black professor and the first Sikh to work offshore in the North Sea, as well as the people who arrived with virtually nothing.

Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "Reading through these stories reminds me how much migrants in Scotland have contributed to our culture and society."
