INCREASING numbers of couples are flocking to Edinburgh Zoo to get engaged in front of the panda enclosure.

While Tian Tian and Yang Guang have yet to be successful in the mating game, there has been a 100% acceptance rate when the question has been popped for 35 couples who chose to get engaged at the enclosure.

All-important fertility tests that will show when Tian Tian is beginning to prepare for the 36-hour mating season between March and May are under way. Last year - when there was a false pregnancy scare - artificial insemination was used by vets.

Tony Bradford, visitor experience co-ordinator for Edinburgh Zoo, said: "People are really drawn to their charisma and uniqueness."
