Authorities have ruled out any criminal wrongdoing over Formula One star Michael Schumacher's ski accident, a French prosecutor leading the investigation has said.

The office of Albertville prosecutor Patrick Quincy said in a statement today that "no infraction by anyone has been turned up".

Schumacher, 45, suffered serious head injuries when he fell and hit the right side of his head on a rock off the side of a demarcated slope in the French ski resort of Meribel on December 29. The German has been treated in Grenoble University Hospital since then.

Schumacher's doctors have started waking him from an induced coma. A statement from his spokeswoman declined to provide further details about his health, citing privacy concerns.
