GREAT Britain's women's curling are celebrating reaching the Winter Olympics semi-finals.

Skip Eve Muirhead's world champion rink of Scots beat the Russians 9-6 to move into third place and a guaranteed tie-breaker for a last-four spot, despite later losing to Denmark.

By the start of their match against the Danes it was confirmed they had made it straight into the semi-finals.

Ms Muirhead said: "Our first goal was to finish in the top four and that is exactly what we have done.

"After our first couple of games I would have taken a semi-final spot because we knew it was going to be an uphill struggle from there. Semi-finals of the Olympics, can't complain."

However, they face a real battle to win a spot in the gold medal match because they will play Canada, who beat South Korea 9-4 to become the first women's team ever to make it through the Olympic round-robin without a loss.

The other semi-final sees Switzerland take on Sweden.
