STARGAZERS will have one of the best opportunities over the next week to view the largest planet in our solar system.

Jupiter's features may be able to be clearly seen along with its Galilean Moons, the four largest near the planet.

Professional and amateur astronomers as well as local groups across the UK have been arranging events and activities as part of National Astronomy Week.

Dr Tom Johnston, co-ordinator of Peebles Astronomy Group in the Borders, said: "It will provide an opportunity for many here in the Scottish Borders to experience what will be their first views of our beautiful dark skies through a telescope."
