POLICE have issued a warning about a scam in which broken television sets were sold as brand new to unsuspecting consumers.

Officers said they had become aware a number of people had been duped into buying the electrical goods from salesmen working out of car parks in the east end of Glasgow in the past few days. It is thought customers handed over money and only discovered the TVs were used and broken when they opened the boxes once they had arrived home.

Police Scotland Detective Sergeant Nicola Kilbane, who is based at Baird Street, said: "We have received information that this scam has been taking place over the past few days in car parks. So far, we have heard of these conmen selling broken television sets from the back of vans at The Fort and Forge Retail Parks.

"I would urge members of the public not to be taken in by these fraudsters. If anything seems too good to be true, then it usually is."
