A FURTHER seven schools in the Scottish capital facing overcrowding have been named in a new £15 million plan to create more classroom space.

Edinburgh City Council said Clermiston, East Craigs, Flora Stevenson, Gilmerton, Pentland, Ratho and Wardie primaries were in line for refurbishments to cope with rising rolls. The plans will be debated next week.

Primary school rolls are projected to rise to a peak of nearly 31,000 pupils by 2019, an increase of about 15% on the position at the start of the 2013/14 school year.

However it may mean losing existing facilities to make more classroom space in some cases.

Paul Godzik, Education Convener, said: "Whether or not it is traditional extensions, new-build accommodation or adapting existing space, we are committed to providing the very best educational environment"
