AN osprey catching its prey, deer wandering close to a bridge, and crashing waves in Aberdeen Harbour have all been named as winners of an annual photographic competition.

This year's Scottish Seabird Centre's Nature Photography Awards saw entries increase almost 25% on last year, with 525 images submitted from around the world put in front of the judges for consideration.

Among the winners was Neil MacGregor's spectacular image of an osprey grabbing its catch, which won the Scottish Wildlife prize.

The picture by Mr MacGregor, of Bearsden, first graced The Herald's Picture Of The Day last year and then featured on the front cover of our annual calendar.

Tom Brock, chief executive of the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: "We were overwhelmed by the amazing response to our competition.

"It has been very encouraging for us, as a campaigning conservation and education charity that focuses on raising appreciation and awareness of our amazing wildlife and natural environment, to see the public so engaged with the natural world around them.

"Congratulations to all the winners for helping us enjoy some truly amazing natural wonders."

An exhibition of the winning photography will be on display at the centre in North Berwick from today until the end of March. For further details see: www.seabird.org.
