A Scot has disappeared after leaving the UK on a flight to Spain.

Peter James Smith, 29, from Selkirk, Borders, was last seen on a flight from East Midlands airport to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands on January 14.

He has not been heard of since and his family are said to be increasingly concerned. Police Scotland have appealed for information to help trace Mr Smith, who may have returned to the UK without the knowledge of his family.

He is described as white, 5ft 6in and slim with blue eyes, short light brown hair and a Scottish Borders accent.

Inspector Carol Wood said: "Anyone who believes they have seen Peter, or who has information that can assist our investigation, is asked to contact police immediately."
