Five people have been injured in a road crash outside a hotel in Midlothian.

Two vehicles collided in the village of Pathhead, south of Edinburgh, at around 7.45pm, the fire service said.

Customers from the Stair Arms Hotel helped some of the occupants from the cars before the emergency services arrived.

Three woman aged 83, 75 and 53 were hurt along with two men aged 84 and 81.

They were taken for treatment at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
