Superstar DJ Pete Tong will collect his MBE today for services to broadcasting and music.

The 53-year-old dance music veteran will receive his honour at Buckingham Palace after he was one of the surprise names on the New Year's Honours List.

The Radio 1 presenter, whose name features in the rhyming slang phrase "It's all gone Pete Tong" meaning "it's all gone wrong", found fame hosting the dance and electronic music show Essential Selection and through his DJ sets in Ibiza which attract thousands of revellers.

Other recipients include Netsmum co-founders Catherine Court, Siobhan Freegard and Sarah Russell who are set to receive OBEs for services to families.

The trio, whose parenting support website now has 1.6 million members, met at a toddler group in Harrow, north west London, and set up their site in 2000 to help other young mothers.

They will be presented with their awards by the Duke of Cambridge.

Author Kathleen Peyton, who has penned about 70 books as KM Peyton, is to be made an MBE for services to children's literature.

David Hempleman-Adams will be awarded the Polar Medal for services to the UK in the field of polar research.

The Wiltshire adventurer became the first person to conquer both the North and South Poles and the highest peaks on all seven continents.

David Bedford, a former 10,000-metre world record holder and race director of the London Marathon, will receive an OBE for services to athletics and charity fund-raising.
