THE head of one of Scotland's most successful private schools has announced his retirement.

Colin Mair, the rector of The High School of Glasgow, will step down from the post at the end of the next school session in 2015.

By then, he will have completed 11 years as rector, 30 years in the senior management team and 39 as a member of the school staff.

Brian Adair, chair of the board of governors, said: "The board is exceedingly grateful for everything which Colin Mair has contributed."

The board will advertise immediately for a replacement, who will be announced in June this year.
