SCOTS indie act Belle & Sebastian are to compose the music for a new film starring Friends actor Matthew Perry.

The musicians have written the soundtrack to The Dog Thrower, a comedy penned and directed by Jon Ronson and telling the story of a man who seeks out popularity by throwing his dog.

It is part of a new series of one-off comedies and dramas for the Playhouse series on Sky Arts.

Model Cara Delevingne will make her TV acting debut, appearing alongside veteran actress Sylvia Syms, in the drama Timeless. The 21-year-old will star as a young woman whose fiance is serving in Afghanistan.

Ben Whishaw features in a story called Foxtrot - created by playwright Polly Stenham - along with Billie Piper about an ill-fated heist by a girl gang. And Jo Brand stars in the comedy Damned - which she co-wrote with Morwenna Banks - set in a social services department.

Other films in the Playhouse series feature Simon Callow, Jane Horrocks, Daniel Mays and Mark Strong.
