A BOXER dog nervously awaits his big moment as the first day of Crufts gets under way.

More than 21,000 dogs from around the world are taking part in the annual event at the NEC in Birmingham, which is thought to be the largest show of its kind.

It was first established in 1891 and runs until Sunday, when the prize of Best in Show will be awarded.

The first day hosted competitions for working and pastoral breeds, with categories including heelwork to music, agility and freestyle.
