'LADS' mags' should be removed from student union shops, according to a union representing Scotland's higher education sector.

The University and College Union (UCU), Scotland, has submitted motions to challenge the "underlying culture" of everyday sexism on campus ahead of its annual conference later this month.

Among the proposals raised are the removal of 'lads' mags' from University, College and Student Union shops.

Janice Aitken, UCU Scotland's Equality Officer, said certain high-profile instances of sexism in Universities across Scotland exposed an "underlying culture of everyday sexism on campus".

As part of International Women's Day, the UCU also reiterated its support of the White Ribbon Scotland campaign, which seeks to involve men in tackling male violence against women.

Dave Anderson, President of UCU Scotland, said: "International Women's Day is about more than one issue or a single campaign.

"However, it acts as a reminder that sexism and violence against women are as prevalent now as ever."
