CELTIC majority shareholder Dermot Desmond has claimed in an interview that he loves nothing better than seeing his beloved team beat "teams that wear blue".

Mr Desmond, who is celebrating 20 years of involvement with the Scottish Champions this week, made the tongue-in-cheek comment during an interview with the club's TV channel, Celtic TV.

The Irish tycoon listed victories over Barcelona and Manchester United and the 2003 Uefa Cup final, in which Martin O'Neill's side lost out to Jose Mourinho's Porto in Seville.

He said: "I like any moment at Celtic Park when we had victories, especially over teams that wear blue.

"Seville was a great highlight but there's many of them there.

"But I think the highlight of the 20 years I have been involved with Celtic is that it's an independent club with wonderful supporters and we have a great future."

The shareholder hailed Neil Lennon as a "first-class manager" and Peter Lawwell as a "wonderful chief executive, as good as you will find in any football club in the world".

He also claimed Celtic to be the best-performing club on and off the pitch in Britain. Mr Desmond joined forces with Celtic saviour Fergus McCann in March 1994 to rescue the club from going out of business.
