ANDY Murray has revealed he was banned from having his wild Afro hairdo by his advisers.

The Wimbledon champion told how he is desperate to grow his hair long again but has been warned against it by image consultants.

Murray sported the look when he first burst on to the tennis circuit.

He has sported a more clean cut look as his fame and success have grown.

The 26-year-old told how he will grow his locks again when he retires.

He said: "I liked that haircut but a lot of people don't like it. They think that it's messy and doesn't look good so I'm not allowed to cut my hair like that unfortunately.

"The tennis industry doesn't like that sort of hair.

"They just like the standard short back and sides.

Murray also told how he is desperate to try snowboarding after watching it at the Winter Olympics but is also banned from that in case he picks up an injury.

He added: "I've never skied in my life, I've never been on a snowboard and I love the snow.

"When I finish playing I'll definitely give it a go.

Murray has adopted a more clean cut image since taking on music mogul Simon Fuller's management company to represent him.

He also has a number of advertising deals with big name sponsors including kit supplier Adidas, tennis racket supplier Head and Swiss watchmaker Rado.
