AROUND 100 people have protested in support of Ukraine outside the Russian Consulate in Edinburgh.

Members of the expatriate Ukrainian community delivered a letter to the consulate in Melville Street.

It is the second demonstration held there in recent weeks in protest over the Russian involvement in the violent unrest that has caught the country in a stranglehold. Edinburgh councillor Stefan Tymkewycz, whose is of Ukrainian descent, was among the protesters and he said the actions of the Russians could only be curbed with strict sanctions.

Speaking from the consulate, he said: "We are here to send a message to President Putin to remove his troops from the sovereign state of Ukraine."
