HOLYROOD chiefs have reported record sales at the Scottish Parliament - after moving the gift shop closer to the exit.

Tourists at the £414 million government building now leave through slowly-revolving automatic doors next to the souvenir and gift shop.

The new location gives a clear view of the books, mugs, jewellery, chocolates and other keepsakes on offer.

The £6.5m security extension built as a new entrance to the parliament involved changing the shop's site to a more suitable location.

Figures in a report by Holyrood chief executive Paul Grice have revealed a 13% sales increase since the move with takings over the Christmas period passing £50,000.

Mr Grice said: "The shop enjoyed another successful pre-Christmas sales period, with sales for November and December at £50,371."
