A 78-year-old man has died two weeks after he woke up in a body bag at a funeral home after being mistakenly pronounced dead.

Coroner Dexter Howard said Walter Williams died at his home in Mississippi early today. The cause was not released.

Mr Williams's story went viral after he was pronounced dead on February 26.

At Porter and Sons Funeral Home, workers were getting ready to embalm him when he started to move.

Mr Williams was rushed to hospital and was released a few days later. Doctors say a mix of medicines may have caused his vital signs to appear unresponsive.

Family members also said Mr Williams's pacemaker may have stopped working and then started again.
