CAMPAIGNERS have claimed the Westminster Government is coming under pressure to disguise the problem of child poverty.

With up to 100,000 young people expected to be classed as in poverty by 2020, they have suggested the UK Government is facing calls to "move the goal posts" on publicly released figures.

Dr John McKendrick, senior lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University, said: "It's too easy to make the mistake of blaming poverty on austerity, the economy and the need to reduce the budget deficit. Scotland, and the UK, needs to remain steadfast in its commitment to making the difficult decisions that work toward, rather than undermine, the eradication of child poverty."

It follows a report on the extent of poverty in Scotland.
