SCOTTISH Poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy is backing a campaign to stop children's books being labelled either for girls or boys.

The Glasgow-born writer is one of a number of authors who have leant their support to the Let Books Be Books campaign, which seeks to put pressure on publishers to not market books along gender lines.

The campaign has also attracted the backing of novelist Philip Pullman and children's laureate Malorie Blackman, along with publishers Parragon and Usborne and bookseller Waterstones.

The campaign wants to see an end to books being sold specifically for boys or girls, or being coloured pink or blue depending on the target gender.

Parragon and Usborne have said they will no longer produce books with 'for girls' or 'for boys' in the title.
