A TEACHER whose affair with her 16-year-old pupil led to her being placed on the sex offenders register has agreed to be banned from the classroom.

Bernadette Smith, 35, who spent the night in the bed of Gary Ralston, is due to be removed from the teaching register at hearing of the General Teaching Council for Scotland on Monday.

The "Removal with consent" hearing follows Ms Smith's admission that she had the affair during "10 days of madness".

The teacher at Bannockburn High, Stirling, said her marriage to husband Brian had been crumbling.

The English and History teacher, from Denny, Stirlingshire, was convicted at Stirling Sheriff Court in November 2013 of "engaging in sexual activity with a pupil".

She was later given a community payback order and placed on the sex offenders' register. Her relationship with the pupil ended after his grandmother complained to the school and police were called in.
