Vulnerable people will benefit from a £1.5 million joint initiative between Sport Relief and the Scottish Government.

Ministers announced additional funding for the Legacy 2014 Scottish Sport Relief Home and Away programme.

The Government is contributing £750,000, which Sport Relief will match.

The money will then be split evenly between helping projects in Scotland and in some of the Commonwealth's poorest countries.

The Scottish Government cash is coming from its international development fund, the Cashback for Communities scheme, which uses money seized from criminals, and the Legacy 2014 programme, set up as part of the commitment to create a lasting legacy from this summer's Games.

Voluntary organisations in Scotland will be able to apply for cash from the "home" portion this year.

Sport Relief is in discussion with Unicef to identify how the "away" portion will be used, but it will focus on projects that support children and young people, improve access to health and education services and use sport to help change youngsters' lives.
