A driver has been airlifted to hospital after crashing off a motorway.

The one vehicle accident happened around 2.20pm today on the M9 in Stirling close to the Craigforth junction and involved a dark coloured Ford Fiesta.

The 32-year-old driver was seriously injured and was airlifted to the Southern General hospital in Glasgow. No one else was travelling in the car.

The busy road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident.

It has since reopened and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on the non emergency 101 number.
