A CONTROVERSIAL rave night that was banned at the last minute after earlier tour dates sparked violence, drunkenness and a wave of drug-taking is now expected to go ahead.

DJ Hardwell is to due to perform in Edinburgh after promoters rescheduled the huge dance event at the city's Royal Highland Centre later this summer.

The rave had its licence suspended in February after a "major incident" at Hardwell's Belfast tour date days before. Paramedic tents were swamped with hundreds of drunken teenagers and drug-taking was said to be widespread.

Tickets for this summer's gig are currently on sale.

A council spokesperson said: "We expect to receive a licensing application, which will be considered in due course."
