SCOTLAND'S national orchestra will move into its £14 million home in the centre of Glasgow in its new season, as well as feature a major commission from one of the nation's leading composers.
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has commissioned Sally Beamish to create Equal Voices, a large scale work for orchestra and chorus.
It will be performed as part of a programme commemorating the start of the First World War, over the Remembrance Sunday weekend.
In the new season, announced yesterday, the RSNO also said it would move into its new home at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, which will have a rehearsal or performance space with a capacity of about 600 seats, education facilities, practice rooms, and management and administration offices.
The season will feature the music of Scandinavian composers Nielsen and Sibelius. There will be a Classic FM Live concert with John Suchet and Nicola Benedetti will return for her first performances of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No1 with the RSNO.
RSNO music director Peter Oundjian said: "It is an honour for me to be a part of an organisation which, through the delivery of our new rehearsal and recording facility, will have so many opportunities to fulfil its aspirations of connecting with a growing audience."
