The new chief executive of the SSE Hydro and SECC has been announced.

Peter Duthie, 54, will take over from John Sharkey as CEO of Scottish Exhibition Centre Ltd on April 19, assuming responsibility for the business operation of the SECC and SSE Hydro.

Sharkey announced his resignation in November 2013.

Duthie joined the company in 1984 and became a Commercial Director in 2008. His appointment was announced by Will Whitehorn, chairman of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre.

Duthie said: "With the opening of The SSE Hydro, I believe the SECC to be the leading event and entertainment campus in the UK. The business is well placed for a great future, moving from a period of development to the challenge of fully exploiting the assets which have been created. I look forward to being in a position to lead and direct the company at such an exciting time".

Whitehorn, added: "The recruitment process for the position of CEO has been a rigorous one with a large number of candidates and lengthy interview process for what is a very sought after and challenging job. Peter has emerged as the best candidate on his own merit and the fact that he has done so reflects the standing of the SECC team in the UK and wider market.

"I am greatly looking forward to working with Peter to continue building the SECC and SSE Hydro into a powerhouse of entertainment, sport, conferences, exhibitions and other facilities at the heart of Glasgow's vibrant and growing economy and we are planning considerable further investment at the site to achieve this."
