Alloa-based Williams Brothers Brewing Company this week announced national distribution of Double Joker IPA (8.3% ABV), two years after the idea for the beer was suggested - by accident - on the social media platform Twitter.

Chris Williams, of Williams Brothers Brewing Co, created Double Joker after Williams Brothers Twitter followers misunderstood a tweet from the brewery's Twitter account.

Tweeting from the brewery that it was a 'Double Joker brew day today' - Chris' reference to batch quantity was mistaken for a new beer, which he promptly set about making a prototype of.

Joker IPA is well established as one of the Brotherhood's most popular craft beers - selling 60 barrels a week - and is a key component of Double Joker IPA. The new IPA is formulated by creating a double strength wort (or beer) which is then hopped with double the hops and bitterness. The result is a bold Scottish style Imperial IPA.

Initial - and small - batches quickly sold out after the experimental brew found favour - and the beer was exported to Italy, Sweden & Russia as well as sold in Scotland. The new 33cl Double Joker IPA bottle is an addition to the Brotherhood range and is available nationally.

As well as Double Joker IPA - Williams Brothers Brewing Co also announced that two further new bottles are now available. Paradigm Shift (6.2% ABV) and Williams & Brooklyn Brewery A Wee Bit - will be available in 33cl and 50cl Bottles respectively. These new brews showcase the Brotherhood's continued commitment to innovation in craft brewing.

The collaboration with Brooklyn Brewery is a Scotch Ale brewed with 'a wee bit' of peated malt, honey and treacle, then fermented with a Brooklyn ale yeast. Paradigm Shift is a hopped red ale which may be considered a "Red IPA". The new beer, available in 33cl bottles, has a malty toffee flavour with a lemony fresh finish.

The new beers are now available in Valhalla's Goat & Inn Deep in Glasgow and Great Grog in Edinburgh - these beers are also available by the crate from the brewery's website.
