A YOUNG motorist who was killed in a car crash had been due to appear in court accused of speeding.

Connor Sanderson, 21, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire, died after the accident in the town's Beith Road, near to Johnstone High School at about 10.55am on Saturday.

It is understood a warrant had been issued for Mr Sanderson after he failed to appear recently at Paisley Justice of the Peace Court.

It was alleged that he had committed a speeding offence on M8 by driving at 75mph in a 60mph zoned area near Glasgow Airport.

After hearing that he should have been in attendance and no reason could be given for his absence, a warrant was granted for his arrest.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash and police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Last month, a teacher was killed on the same road whilst out walking.

The tragedy is the latest on the busy road which runs through the town.

Frances King, 65, died when she was hit by a car on February 13 near Rannoch Road. Two firefighters are understood to have tried to help Mrs King in the aftermath, but she later died.

Inspector Andy McIlraith, of Renfrewshire Divisional Road Policing Unit, had appealed for the firefighters to come forward to assist with the inquiry.

Meanwhile, police have named a 28-year-old mother who died following a crash on Friday near Alves in Moray as Kerri MacDonald.

Ms MacDonald, from Elgin, leaves a son and was described by her family as a "gentle, kind-hearted person who was a friend to many and took great joy in spending time with those she loved".
