PRIZE-WINNING author Eleanor Catton is pictured outside the Mitchell Library in Glasgow ahead of a debate on whether the Commonwealth means anything in literature.

Coming just three months before the city prepares to host the Commonwealth Games, New Zealand-born Ms Catton was joined by Pakistani novelist Kamila Shamsie to discuss its significance to writers. Cotton, appearing as part of the Aye Write book festival, was awarded the Man Booker prize last year for her novel The Luminaries.
