The world's biggest passenger plane has landed in Glasgow.

Emirates super jumbo A380 touched down in the city at 12.45pm.

This is the first time the impressive double-decker airbus has landed on Scottish soil.

Glasgow Airport tweeted: "@GLA_Airport the first Scottish airport to welcome an A380. Thanks @emirates."

Spectators across the city took to the social network to share their images of the multi-million plane as it circled overhead before descending.

The airbus is piloted by Iain Weir from Clydebank and is visiting the city to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Emirates introducing flights between Glasgow and Dubai.

During the three hour stay, VIPs were invited on board to see the plane which is fitted with shower spas and a passenger lounge with drinks bar.

The landing was delayed for seven minutes. Captain Weir was on his final approach when he noticed what he described as a "technical issue".

But the captain said he would love to pilot the airbus in and out of Glasgow on a regular service.

Hundreds of people, including many seasoned plane-watchers, welcomed the airbus to the city.

Plane spotters took to Twitter to share their images of the airbus flying to Glasgow.

Charles Thompson shared an image of people cheering in Drumchapel with the words: "A real Glasgow welcome for Emirates first sched A380 as it flies over Drumchapel to Glasgow Airport."

London vocal harmony group The Overtones tweeted a picture of the plane and said: "Just landed in Glasgow to the sight of a particularly lovely @emirates Airbus A380. "
