BRITONS still prefer a traditional greeting card as a thank-you, with a tweet the least favourable, according to a poll.

As many as 78% are happiest with a hand-written letter or card.

Twitter was voted the most insincere way to say thanks, with just 13% satisfied, according to the poll commissioned by card specialists Clintons.

The next favourite way of receiving a thank-you is by e-mail (45%), followed by text message (41%), Facebook message (22%), a Facebook "Like" (21%), and 21% preferred an automated electronic greeting card.

As many as 26% of Britons felt insulted by a thank-you tweet and 18% didn't like being thanked by a Facebook status update.

Although 24% of 18- to 24-year-olds were content with being thanked through Twitter, only 3% of people 65-plus were satisfied.

Tim Fairs, director at Clintons, said: "Our polling tells us that people appreciate being thanked with care."
